We hope this will increase your interest in calligraphy and encourage you to give it a try. You will discover that calligraphy is a wonderfully creative craft, which is great fun and will give you a great sense of personal achievement.

It is very easy to begin. You only need a pen, paper and ink and some good instructions. Why not start today?

Here are some photos of beginners just starting to learn calligraphy using pens provided by Manuscript at a workshop given by Patricia Lovett in February 2009 at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. This shows how quickly you can start to produce beautiful writing.

Calligraphy is just one of the crafts which uses traditional tools and materials to create contemporary work. The Heritage Crafts Association has been set up to support and promote heritage crafts like calligraphy as a fundamental part of our living heritage.
